Weather, climate and economic outcomes: Evidence from Italy

چکیده

The economic analysis of climate change requires estimates at both aggregate and local level. Although there are numerous studies that estimate the global impact change, country-level still rare, particularly as far Italy is concerned. By exploiting a panel 110 provinces observed between 1980 2014, this paper investigates variation weather variables on GDP per capita agricultural productivity in Italy. To address issues model uncertainty, explores to what extent these outcomes affected by variables, linearly or non-linearly, well how their growth rate levels result. Main findings show considerable uncertainty. most robust econometric results showing statistically significant effects temperature for reaction function from specification, where included non-linear form while enter first differences. Projections end century slight average per-capita, but important losses agriculture, due persistent increase temperatures under RCPs 4.5 8.5. • We study agriculture exploit rich dataset across territorial units over 1980–2014 period problems we compare several different specifications “best” performing specification estimated differences End predictions, suggest nil GDP, loss agriculture.

The Economic Impacts of Climate Change: Evidence from Agricultural Output and Random Fluctuations in Weather

This paper measures the economic impact of climate change on US agricultural land by estimating the effect of random year-to-year variation in temperature and precipitation on agricultural profits. The preferred estimates indicate that climate change will increase annual profits by $1.3 billion in 2002 dollars (2002$) or 4 percent. This estimate is robust to numerous specification checks and re...

The Economic Impacts of Climate Change: Evidence from Agricultural Output and Random Fluctuations in Weather: Reply

Fisher et al. (2012) (hereafter, FHRS) have uncovered coding and data errors in our paper, Deschênes and Greenstone (2007) (hereafter, DG). We acknowledge and are embarrassed by these mistakes. We are grateful to FHRS for uncovering them. We hope that this Reply will also contribute to advancing the literature on the vital question of the impact of climate change on the US agricultural sector. ...

The Economic Impacts of Climate Change: Evidence from Agricultural Profits and Rqandom Fluctuations of Weather

This paper measures the economic impact of climate change on agricultural land in the United States by estimating the effect of the presumably random year-to-year variation in temperature and precipitation on agricultural profits. Using long-run climate change predictions from the Hadley 2 Model, the preferred estimates indicate that climate change will lead to a $1.1 billion (2002$) or 3.4% in...

Climate change effects on economic growth: mixed empirical evidence

West Africa is vulnerable to the effects of climate change. This paper analyzed the impacts of climate change on economic growth in Anglophone West Africa with similar background, during the periods 1969-2016. Five growth model equations have been developed to incorporate climate change variables into the model. Panel data estimations such as the fixed effect model, random effect model and Haus...
